The EXCEL Education Center opened in July 2008 with the Summer Enrichment Program. The summer was the introduction to a three-year program that serves students throughout their secondary school career, with the ultimate goal of all EXCEL students attending and graduating from colleges located in Sierra Leone and throughout the world. Students and teachers will participate in innovative and creative workshops taught by educational leaders from the United States and Sierra Leone. The teacher component will engage teachers in professional development workshops that bring a wealth of resources, current materials, and updated curriculum, while also providing teachers with the most current and effective teaching strategies. These workshops will take place every other Saturday throughout the academic year, and will begin the process of adequately training and preparing teachers in Sierra Leone. As part of the EXCEL Program, we will collaborate with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and the community to provide academic support, leadership and community development and a college preparation program geared toward increasing students academic success. |
